About

Dr. Harm Scherpbier is a physician, born and raised in the Netherlands, where he completed his medical training at the University of Groningen. During his medical training he became fascinated by computers and information systems, and how these systems might help make healthcare better, more efficient, and more user-friendly. He pursued a master’s degree in medical informatics from the Erasmus University of Rotterdam and devoted his career to health information technology.

Harm is a health IT strategy advisor partnering with firms on clinical system development, population health solutions, data analytics, and health IT implementation and strategy. He is the chief medical information officer at HealthShare Exchange, the Philadelphia regional Health Information Exchange, focusing on expanding the reach and relevance of the information exchange in clinical care and population health. He teaches health informatics and population health analytics at the Jefferson College of Population Health in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is a fellow of the Health Information Management Systems Society, a member of the HIMSS Physician Committee and the Interoperability Committee, and a fellow of the American Medical Informatics Association, where he is a core team member of the Health Informatics Accreditation program.

Dr. Scherpbier was previously chief medical information officer at Main Line Health, a five-hospital Integrated health network near Philadelphia, where he was responsible for the implementation of healthcare information systems and electronic patient records for physicians, nurses, and other clinicians throughout the health system. He worked in software engineering and product management teams at SMS, Siemens Health Services, CareScience, Aetna US Healthcare, eClinicalWorks, and Philips Wellcentive.

Harm and his wife Titia live in the suburbs of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They love spending time outdoors with the kids, going hiking, camping, biking, skiing, or kayaking in beautiful places.
