Over eleven seasons, viewers have watched him navigate life, love, and the occasionally absurd world of Charleston high society with characteristic humor and unfiltered honesty.
Born and raised in Hilton Head, South Carolina, Shep grew up in a family that valued education, adventure, and a healthy dose of irreverence. After graduating from the University of Georgia, he earned his MBA from Vanderbilt University, seemingly setting himself on a traditional business path. However, life had other plans. When the opportunity to join Southern Charm presented itself, Shep embraced his unconventional streak and has never looked back.
Throughout his television career, Shep has become known for his quick wit, his loyalty to friends, and his resistance to settling down in the traditional sense. He’s the eternal bachelor who values experiences over possessions, adventures over stability, and authenticity over image management. An passionate outdoorsman, Shep’s true loves extend far beyond the Charleston social scene. He’s an avid fly fisherman, surfer, and hunter who’s traveled the world pursuing these passions, from the rivers of Patagonia to the waves of Costa Rica to the mountains of South Africa. These pursuits aren’t just hobbies; they’re essential to understanding who he is and what brings him genuine peace.
This is Shep’s second book, reflecting his commitment to creative expression and honest storytelling. Following his Ayahuasca experience, he’s continued to navigate the balance between embracing his naturally gregarious personality and maintaining the mindfulness and self-awareness he cultivated in Costa Rica. He remains an active member of the Southern Charm cast while expanding his circle to include mentors, fellow adventurers, and people who challenge him to grow.
Shep currently resides in Charleston, South Carolina, though anyone who knows him understands he’s rarely in one place for long.
