Shelly L. Henderson Uses Book To Launch Her Podcast And Differentiate Herself From The Competition

“Together with my husband, Phil, we started Henderson Properties over 20 years ago in Charlotte, NC. We’re a full-service real estate firm and together we are trying to positively impact people’s lives in the Charlotte area and beyond. Writing a book has really helped to do that. In 2014, when our first child went to college, I thought my life was over. I had established a successful business. I had raised a great kid and now he was going off to college and I didn’t know what that meant for me as a mom, or even as a business person. How was I going to get through the next season of life when my first child had made this big leap to go out to the big, wide world? I knew that we had a story to tell because our business is a little bit different. When we started, there was no Google. There was no internet to research how to start a business. We didn’t take out a loan and we didn’t have family money, so I knew that eventually, we had a good story to tell. In 2016, I partnered with Advantage Media Group to pen Starting From Scratch. I wanted to do something that would take Henderson Properties to the next level and writing a book has done that. It has opened up a wide variety of opportunities for us. It has taken our marketing strategies to the next level. And now, I’m happy to say that because of the book, Advantage has also helped me start my own podcast, so Starting From Scratch is now in the podcast world. I’m so happy that we decided to do that and take the plunge and take Henderson Properties and Starting From Scratch and merge them together because people are looking to do business with people who do things differently and being an author has enabled us to do that.”
