Ongoing racial disparities in academic performance indicate that Black children need increased attention in after-school interventions. Dr. Perryman has dedicated her career to designing culturally relevant programs that move the discussion from failure to potential and hope for Black kids.
In this book, she guides educators, school administrators, and social service directors through her ELEVATE program’s detailed lesson plans, which provide a roadmap to engage children’s creativity, to teach children how to lift themselves and each other up, and to build community and harmony while providing continual motivation through music and affirmations.
